Way back in 2003 the ACT claimed what is arguably the Territory’s first Senior Div 1 National Championship flag. Ten of the squad reunited at the Hockey Centre on Saturday 24 November to relive the games and cheer the Chill women into their first Grand Final. Competing in Canberra was an obvious advantage but from my memory it was always touch and go. Gerrin Hingee was brought down from the over 55’s to bolster numbers and Ken Birrer competed in the final with his thumb wired after breaking it in the round games.

Call for Players – from amongst ACT Masters Hockey players
for both the over 60’s and the over 65’s NSW Champ’s
{> 65’s in Tamworth – Friday 2nd to Sunday 4rh June 2023}
{> 60’s in Newcastle – Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd July 2023}
Hello Gents
I am writing to you all on behalf of ACT Masters Hockey for Goulburn Masters Hockey. As you may know, ACT Masters players usually form a large proportion of the Goulburn teams in these age groups at NSW State Championships.
In 2023, the over 65s are on in Tamworth on Friday 2- Sunday 4 June: depending on numbers, we have previously sent a Div 1 and a Div2 team.
The over 60s are on in Newcastle on Friday 21 – Sunday 23 July: in 2022 we sent a Div 2 team and came away as winners of the Division.
If you are interested in playing at either of these events, could you please respond to both me and Conway Bogg as soon as possible. Details regarding entry costs and accommodation costs will be forwarded when team numbers are settled.
If you are able to umpire at either of these events, could you also let us know – Teams must nominate an umpire as well and Goulburn usually provides some financial support for those who volunteer to umpire.
– responses appreciated by Wednesday 26 April.
Thanks all
Mark McElligot

LifeNight, Monday 3rd April, at Lyneham
ACT Masters is running our annual charity night on Monday 3 April. On the night we will play a little hockey, with sides from North and South competing for the Jack Thompson “Keeper of the Flame” trophy. Afterwards we will put on some food, games and raffles at Pick-up-sticks. In the next few days you will be contacted by the team coordinators and invited to play in a team aged over 55’s; under 55’s; or open women. It will cost you $15, which will get you some pizza, a few chips and a chance to win around $2000 worth of prizes. The night has a few aims, but the main one is to provide our 450 plus members a chance to socialise, talk with old friends and raise some money for charity. So even if you are not playing, come along and enjoy the company, and pass this on to anybody in the Hockey community who might be interested. All money raised will be contributed to various charities around Canberra. Leo President, ACT Masters Hockey Assn |
